Privacy Policy

​Protecting your privacy is important to Psychrespect.  We are committed to maintaining the security of personal information that you provide to us. 

Providing Personal Information
All practitioners that work from Psychrespect are fully independent and are not employees, sub-contractors or representatives of Psychrespect.  Therefore, any information you provide to your practitioner at Psychrespect will only be seen by your practitioner. No client files or notes are kept on the premises at Psychrespect, in written or electronic form.

As part of providing a psychological service to you, a psychologist will need to collect and record personal information from you that is relevant to your current situation.  This information will be a necessary part of any psychological assessment, or of any therapeutic treatment that is conducted.   You do not have to give all your personal information, however this may affect the psychological service being provided to you.
Information is gathered as part of the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a client’s condition, and is seen only by the psychologist.  The information is retained in order to document what happens during sessions, and enables the psychologist to provide a relevant and informed service.

Confidentiality
All personal information gathered by your practitioner during the provision of the psychological service remains confidential and secure except where:
It is subpoenaed by a court, or
Failure to disclose the information would place you or another person at serious and imminent risk; or
Your prior approval has been obtained to
a)     provide a written report to another professional or agency, such as a GP or a lawyer; or
b)     discuss the material with another person, eg. a parent or employer;
or if disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by law.

​Access to Information
At any stage you as a client are entitled to access to the information about you kept on file.  If your counselling is being funded by a third party, they may be entitled to reports from the psychologist about the progress of your treatment.  Your counsellor can discuss with you how you may access your information.

Disclosure of Information
We will not use or disclose personal information other than for the purpose for which it was collected or for a purpose reasonably related to it, except when required by law to do so unless we have your consent to do so.

Security of Information
We take our obligation to protect information that we hold about you seriously.  We will take reasonable security measures to keep information secure from misuse or inappropriate disclosure or inappropriate modification.

Access to Personal Information and Updating Information
It is important that the information we hold about you is correct and up to date.  We encourage you to contact your practitioner at any time to update or correct information they hold about you.

You can request access to your personal information by contacting your practitioner.  If your practitioner refuses to provide access to information or to update information, your practitioner will provide you with the reasons why.
